Saab Key Programming
Saab cars built since 1994 feature an immobilizer system based on a set of keys. Adding an extra key requires an entirely new transponder and programming. This is usually done by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The issue is that this can be very costly. It is recommended to always have a spare set of keys on hand.
Transponder key
The transponder is a piece of key equipped with an electronic chip. This chip sends a signal when the key is inserted in the ignition. The car then examines the signal to determine if it matches that of the key. If the signals are identical the car will be able to unlock itself and begin. This is an excellent way to guard your car against theft.
Transponder keys are an increasingly popular feature in automobiles, but you must be aware that they are not as secure as classic keys made of metal. The metal component of the traditional key can easily be cut or copied, while transponders have an electronic chip that safeguards it. This chip contains an unique code that is encoded into the car's system to identify it.
When a Saab key fob is used, the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. The car will only recognize the key fob when it has a chip that is unmodified and programmed to match. The car won't start when the key isn't programmed to match.
It is essential to ensure that you have an extra key for your Saab. This is especially important especially if you live in a rural region that has numerous car thieves. You can get a brand new key for your Saab by going to the dealership without paying high costs. You can have the replacement key on the spot at a fraction of what you would pay at an auto dealer.
Wired key
Saab cars are usually provided with two keys. If you only have one, it's best to acquire an extra key fob as soon as is possible in case you lose it the car will require the replacement of a CIM unit and the locking cylinders will need to be replaced. This can be costly particularly for used cars.
The next step is to wire the wires for the column and row to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and requires a significant amount of soldering. There is no standardized way to do this, but it is essential to determine the way you'll route and solder the columns and rows. There are 22 microcontroller wires as well as pins to connect for this keyboard. It includes 5 rows and 17 columns.
After the columns and rows are soldered, it's time to connect them to key switches. To do this, you need to place a diode across each key switch pin and then solder it. see more will shield the pins on the key switch from current and prevent them from being shorted. The diode will only allow current to flow in one direction, and it also has a an indicator of black color that indicates which way the current will flow.

Some of the tools offered at auto parts storeslike the Autel MaxiIM IM608 Pro and IM508 -- can assist customers at the shop or DIY customers in certain instances program replacement keys and restore lost immobilizer information, Sanabria says. The tools plug into OBD ports and guide the customer through each step, making the process easier than replacing the vehicle's computer.
Jump starting the battery
Most people keep a set in their trunk to start a car in case of emergency, but it may not be a good idea for vehicles that are newer. These cars have a variety of digital and computer systems that communicate with one another. A surge in voltage when a battery is connected to another can fry the components and render your vehicle unusable.
Connect the cables to the vehicle that is operating. Allow it to run for two minutes. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that is good (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end to a clean, unpainted metal surface beneath the hood of the affected car. The engine block is a great choice. The black cable is not to be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could trigger sparks, which could ignite the gasoline that is in the engine compartment.
Once the cables are connected the disabled vehicle and allow it to run for around five minutes before disconnecting the cables in reverse order. The battery in your Saab 9-3 will recharge as you drive. It will take a while for it to return to its original state. It's a good idea purchase a spare key fob as soon as you can, because replacing the only working one requires the installation of a new computer module and a special program to convince it that your missing keys aren't trying to steal the car.
Replacement case
Saab owners often only have one car key, and if it is lost, they'll be charged. It's expensive to buy keys and will require replacing the CIM or TWICE in the case of older models. It is recommended to have a backup key in the event of theft or other disaster and the most effective way is to purchase an additional key as early as you can. Even it's "new", it will not work.
The dealer will charge you the most expensive dollars if you only have one working key. We can reset and reprogram the computer's EEEPROM in order to make it ready to accept a replacement key without replacing the entire system. This can save you a significant amount of money. It's also much less expensive than waiting until you lose your sole key.
